2023: The Christians Are Coming

As Nigeria commences the journey enroute 2023, it is getting clear that the journey is not going to be left to professional politicians, or what some people call politricians.

There is no doubt that Nigerians across different social strata are not satisfied with the way the politicians run the affairs of Nigeria.

Feelers coming from different corners across the nation reveal that Nigerians across groups are grossly disenchanted with the system which has been running since 1999. It has clearly left Nigerians more hopeless and poorer.

Information coming to PTL News revealed that Christians across various Church denominations are not going to be left watching the charlatans, mediocres and men and women without conscience directing the affairs of the nation, henceforth.

Recently, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of Nigeria’s fastest growing Churches came with the announcement of the establishment of a political arm named Directorate of Politics and Civil Governance.

In a memo by the Assistant General Overseer in charge of Administration and Personnel, Pastor J.D. Adesola, the directorate was created for political education of its members.https://www.google.com/url?-rccg-creates-directorate-to-support-members-vying-for-political-positions

In the same vein, a similar body has been created by the national body of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. It is led by a former politician turned cleric, the Senior Pastor of Living Spring Chapel International Pastor Femi Emmanuel.

This development as expected has drawn different comments and reactions from diverse interest groups, politicians and private persons.

To us as Christians, this is a welcome overdue development.

Many have been asking questions why Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG had to take this step and make it public. Some others believe it would draw similar reactions from the religious rival group, the Muslims to take a similar step.

Reacting to this is the renowned media giant Dele Momoduhttps://gatekeepersnews.com/2022/03/12/2023-rccg-will-face-crisis-if-it-supports-osinbajo-dele-momodu/ who said the creation of the directorate by the leadership of the Church was nothing but an invitation to armageddon.

Armageddon is defined by Collins English Dictionary as “a terrible battle or war that some people think will lead to the total destruction of the world or the human race.”

In biblical context it is described as in the New Testament, as “the last battle between good and evil before the day of judgement.”

Well for Nigeria, and literally speaking, Momodu, a presidential hopeful in the 2023 election could possible mean the move of the Church to be interested in politics could bring a kind of political conflagration of the Nigerian system.

The media entrepreneur said the setting up of the political arm of the Church was unnecessary, warning the church leadership not to mix religion with politics.

Some others also linked the directorate with the purported presidential ambition of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to the setting up of the directorate.

The Redeemed authority has refuted any link of the Vice President with the directorate.

Yes, Christians, the Church in Nigerian politics is a highly welcome development.

For a long time, Nigerian Christians have distanced themselves from the Nigerian politics which is said to be very dirty and murky. Many said it was ungodly, and in effect this has made the political arena filled with liars, charlatans, mediocres and men with no conscience which has left Nigeria stagnant and even backward for their greed and selfish ways they have been piloting the affairs of the country.

With Nigerians’ experience to date, it is very clear that Nigerians are grossly dissatisfied with the way Nigeria is being ruled.

Nigeria has been so likened to a child of a meat seller eating bones, and the child of a cloth seller wearing rags.

Nigeria has practised the latest democratic experience for about 23 years now. By 2023 it would be 24 years of 6 terms with four different presidents elected so far, yet it does not seem as if the conditions of the welfare of Nigerians are improving.

The last experience which has sparked so much hope and expectations has left Nigeria poorer and hopeless with fear of separation, kidnapping and banditry becoming the trade mark of the administration.

On many issues, situations and propositions, Nigerian politicians are not on the same page with the people that got them elected into their various exalted offices.

Apart from Christians, non Christians particularly the Muslims are not more satisfied with the situation and trend of things.

Therefore, Nigeria needs leaders of conscience, those that fear God and those that could subject themselves to the will of the people under God. For this and other reasons Christians, Muslims, even unbelievers that have the interest of the progress of this country at heart cannot continue to watch without doing something about it.

I want to say that the same reason that prompted the likes of Dele Momodu, Sam Ohuabunwa, Mamood Jega, Pat Utomi and our highly respected professionals and technocrats that drew the attention of our concerned Christian leaders to come out to offer their own alternative to safe the state of the nation. Their Muslim counterparts are also expected to follow suits.

Religious bodies should be interested in those that rule us. They have the onerous task of rescueing Nigeria from the grip of our wicked soulless and mindless politicians.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate one of the advocates of Christians in politics, Rev. Solomon Adegbolagun the visioner and President of Centre For Righteous Living that this is coming right in his own eyes. For many years he has been calling on Christians and Church leaders to have interest in those that rule them.

Now that the whistle has been blown, it is very clear that Nigerian Christians will no more be ruled or directed by men of no faith. The Church and even mosques have taken back power for the nation, and we pray they know how to use it well.

Apart from mobilising their members to get voters card, cast their votes and ensure that their votes count, they should also be interested in the choice of candidates that contest for various posts from the Local Government Councillors and Chairmen, to State and National Assembly men and women, as well as the positions of the Governors and the President.

However, they should be warned of the reasons that discredited our so called political leaders. They should not allow themselves to be destroyed by the force of money. They should not allow their choice of candidates to be determined by money. Positions should not be allocated by cash and carry.

Also, they should not allow this new responsibility to take the gospel and message of Jesus Christ off their hands. As they preach the gospel, they should extend it to their political candidates at all times so that they will be guided by the message of the gospel and how to ensure godly leadership.

There is no doubting the spirit of excellence of these our religious leaders. They have demonstrated it well in their various areas of callings. Many of them that have residential camps are running it debt free with adequate infrastructure which many Local and State Governments cannot achieve. We are watching and monitoring with keen interest. We pray for more spirit of excellence in their efforts to get this achieved.
