There have been serious concerns in Christian circle and particularly over the health challenges of a renowned gospel singer, Sister Bunmi Akinaanu popularly known as Omije Oju Mi for her excellent delivery in an album produced by ECWA Mushin Church Choir some years ago.
In a circulating clip, the Bunmi was seen sitting on a chair, visibly emotional and in pains crying with a pastor ministering healling to her.
The video was reportedly taken during an open-air crusade, where she had attended in search of divine healing for her health condition.
During the session, the presiding cleric approached Bunmi and tried to engage her in conversation, but she was unable to speak and only continued to cry in pains.
After some time, she managed to respond, showing a plaster on her right hand, indicating she had recently undergone medical treatment.
At one point, Bunmi showed one of her legs, which appeared to be affected. She held it in pain while still crying, prompting the clergy to minister to her, praying for her healing.
He also comforted her with words of faith, assuring her that her trials would soon end, and encouraged her to praise God, promising that her testimony would come soon.
In the footage which was taken at what appeared to be an open-air crusade, where she seemed to have gone seeking a solution for her health issues, the minister in charge was seen leading the spiritual programme as he attempted to speak with her, but she could not utter any words, only crying.
It wasn’t clear that the prophet knew well the kind of person he was attending to as he tried to ask for her name. She eventually reminded the clergy of her name, and it was noticed that she had a plaster on her right hand, suggesting she had recently received medical treatment.
Bunmi also showed one of her legs, which appeared to be afflicted under treatment.
She was seen touching the leg in pain while continuing to cry. The clergy placed his foot on her and prayed for healing, reassuring her that her worries would soon be over.
As he prayed, he also sang songs of praise, encouraging her not to be shy and assuring her that she would testify to God’s goodness in her life.
She was later seen trying to walk around with the affected leg.
Meanwhile, there have been reactions following the video. While many have been praying profusely for her, others recommended she should go for medical attention.
In a message posted by Laide Ifedayo, the singer was counselled to seek for medical attention.
She wrote in Faith and Action, “The recent video of gospel minister Bunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye—Omije Ojumi visibly unwell and overwhelmed during a prayer session has stirred deep emotions across the nation. Her voice has been a balm to many, her songs a lifeline in dark seasons. Now, as she faces a health challenge, our hearts are heavy with concern.
But this moment also reminds us of a deeper truth: faith and medical care are not enemies—they are partners. Yes, we pray. We believe in divine healing. But we must also act. God, in His wisdom, has given us doctors and nurses as vessels of healing. Ignoring them while waiting for a miracle is like refusing to eat while praying for strength. Medical intervention is not a lack of faith—it is an expression of it.
She further advised, “Are we checking in on our own health? Are we encouraging our loved ones to seek help when they are unwell, physically or mentally? Are we breaking the silence around illness, or are we spiritualizing what needs both prayer and professional care?”
She concluded, “To everyone reading this: your health matters. Your healing matters. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Pray, yes-but also book that appointment, take that test, talk to that counselor. God works through both miracles and medicine.”
Since Sister Bunmi went solo after her popular debut with ECWA Choir, she has been of immense spiritual blessings to many within and outside Nigeria.
