At the end of the 73rd annual Convention of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, 114 Senior members of the Church were ordained as Honourary Elders and 2,818 were ordained as Full Pastors.
The ordination was conducted at the Sunday Special Thanksgiving Service to mark the end of the Convention.
Speaking at the Ordination Service, the General Overseer, Pastor E. A. Adeboye remarked, “You don’t give honourary degrees to failures but those that are exceptional, and in the spirtual realm, the highest realm is that of the Elders,” noting that Honourary Elders are not ordinary Elders, and the highest respect must be given to them.
Praying for them Pastor Adeboye asked for “the gift of healing, works of miracle, wisdom to be distinguished as Great Elders,” their evening would be more glorious than their morning, and that they would finish well and serve God till the end.
Pastor Adeboye also described the ordination of full pastors as a significant moment and the last opportunity to be anointed, to receive laying of hands, with proclamation and prayer.
While the anointing and laying of hands were delegated to the assistants Daddy G.O. himself prayed for the newly ordained Pastors.
Earlier at the Convention, there had been laying of hands on Deacons and Deaconesses and ordination of Assistant Pastors.
In a similar development at the 73rd Convention, members thanked God for the General Overseer who marked his 50 years of his ordination in The Redeemed Christian Church of God and 45 years of active ministry as a full time Pastor.
Pastor Adeboye was once a university lecturer, teaching in the Universities of Ilorin and Lagos before yielding to the call of God, became a follower of the Church founder, Revd. Josiah Akindayomi, and later the General Overseer of the Church.
The Church under him has grown in leaps and bounds spreading to the whole corners of the world.
The RCCG Convention was held through August 4 to 10 and drew many worshippers from across the world.
At the end of the Convention, the Church recorded 116 births of 64 boys and 52 girls.
Pastor Adeboye alos took a leap into the coming programmes of the Church announced the theme for the next Convention as Mountain Movers, and that of the Holy Congress in December as God of all Flesh.
