Rev. (Mrs) Grace Adetoun Adedeji@ 70: Says “In the face of challenges, I see glory, I see grace and I see the favour of God.”

On Wednesday December 4, 2024, Rev. Mrs. Grace Adetoun Adedeji turned 70 years. The event which was held at her NewLife Assembly, Abule Oke Off Lagos-Abeokuta Express Way was witnessed by a select family members, friends and fellow ministers of God.

At the event Rev. (Mrs.) Adedeji was eulogized by the guests in various ways as friendly ministers of God registered their presence, and paid her glowing tributes.

To Rev. Mrs Adigun, wife a Baptist minister Mama Adedeji was a very humble and respectful woman of God, a strong prayer minister, and workaholic who doesn’t pretend about her feelings.

There were others who saw the celebrant with the lens of kindness. One of the testifiers described her as a very generous woman of God. “Mama is generous. Mama married for me. Daddy and Mummy here took me as their child, they took care of my wife during pregnancy. She is a woman that depends on God. She is a no-nonsense woman, and she doesn’t keep malice.

Her son Olufemi  saw his mother as a cheerful giver, very jovial, friendly and hard working, and thanked God for the growth in her life and ministry.

Another guest, and a friend of over 30 years, who was close to her during her Igando and Shasha experiences, saw Rev. Mrs. Adedeji  as “a confidant and a strong woman with determination. The children are obedient and godly” as she thanked her husband for the supports. “Her life reflects love. She is a very simple woman of God. Mama lives a plain lovely life,” she added.

Rev. Adigun in his message at the thanksgiving service described the celebrant as an epitome of good, matching and descent dressing” noting Christianity does not permit shabby dressing.

“We have known Daddy and Mummy for over 30 years ago from Alimoso Baptist Church. She is very diligent with the works of the Church and ministry. You will always see Daddy and Mummy together.”

Preaching on the topic, At 70 What Next? Rev. Adigun recommended a few tips of what Mrs. Adedeji should engage herself with as she advances in age.

“After seventy God would want you to do things in a new way. It will be advisable that you take to the ministry of praise (quoting Psalm 150.6.), Pray without ceasing, and read the word of God the more. Pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding.”

In her response, the celebrant was grateful to God for all He had proved by the event. She also expressed her thanks to all that made the celebration a colourful and glorious one that it was.

“I thank God for making the day possible. All that have been said and the tributes are by the grace of God who has permitted things.”

Rev. Adedeji later in a brief interview with PTL News expressed her thanks to God and the people who made it to the celebration. “I thank the Almighty God for the success of the programme today. People came from far and wide. It was beyond our imagination. We thank God for not permitting Satan to have any place in the programme from the beginning to its very end. I was excited by the accolades and the recognitions given to me, as it is not convenient being a working day. I thank God. I give glory to Almighty God.”

About the guest, “Some of them came from part of my journey in life. One of the guests was one of my class mates in secondary school. She came to represent the others of Ogbomoso Girls High School, 1973 Set. Some of my old friends in the ministry when it was Newness of Life Ministry, till we started the Church, Elders, Senior men in the ministry, fathers in the Lord and those who knew my beginning in the journey of the ministry and colleagues. When I was confused I moved to Baba Peter Agboola who accepted me. I am pleasantly overwhelmed.”

Reflecting about her life journey of 70 years, Rev. Mrs. Adedeji has this to say, “It has been full of ups and downs. But in all I see glory, I see grace and I see the favour of God. I see God opening doors, I see God making me go through the tortuous journey of life and carrying me along. I see God as backing us, I see God as sustaining me. I see God as my backbone, God has been so faithful. My calling has been so difficult when we started in our sitting room at Shasha there in our sitting room until after 10 years, until God established us here.

“I know God told me then when we were 10 years that when we would be celebrating 15 years he would establish us, and God did that when it was exactly 15 years. God did that in a miraculous way. God encouraged me. God has helped us to expand this space from one level to the other. The Lord helped us to secure more spaces here.”

She also spoke about the challenges she faced at the beginning of her ministry.

“When I started I didn’t have anybody to fall on. I started gradually with conference, then fellowship, and we were moving from place to place, by the grace of God we rented a place in Shasha and that place was demolished. We began to move from place to place that many who were close to us were even doubting the call. But God stabilized us when we moved to this place.

“As Baptist women were not allowed to be on the altar and that was why I didn’t go to Baptist’s Theological Seminary. But today it has been reviewed. When I was at the Seminary God told me specifically about the ministry and what I would be doing. While I was a member in the Baptist, I would later go out to minister outside the church, until God eventually brought us out of the Baptist Church.”

Rev. Mrs. Adedeji also spoke about Life After 70, and sundry matters. “We are looking to God to continue to do the work. We are not getting younger but we are believing God to strengthen us.  We are also concerned about how it will continue after us. We are expecting God to take over, even after we have gone.

My Ministry

Women’s concerns are our major area because I heard God specifically told us to teach women. Another side is about my profession. I am a nurse.  I started with Faith Maternity Home. But when I discovered I was getting old and there was nobody to hand it over to I had to close it down, but for the women we are still going on with them. I have to concentrate on those things I have the grace to do. We are still pushing that side of training and organising women in the ministry

Advice to fellow women

One thing I always say is that if you are not successful as a family person in the home you may not succeed as a minister in the public. Because if you think you are successful outside with no success at home, the home you refuse to develop may come back to destroy the ministry you think you are building and that is why we need to build and sustain our home as ministers of God. By the grace of God, God has really helped us to build our home and train our children in the way of the Lord. We need to teach our children the way of the Lord. To the glory of God all our children got born again in our daily devotion at home, and they are ministers in different churches, doing exploits. We don’t stop them from going out. Like when I travelled outside the country, one of them was holding forth here and we thank God for that.

The birthday thanksgiving service had in attendance Rev. Mrs. Mercy Ekpo, Baba Pastor Peter Agboola, Rev. Adigun and Mrs. from Baptist Church, Mrs. Oladipupo, Rev. Salako, Rev. Adesola, and a host of family, friends and well-wishers.
