Welcoming Mr. President elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

March 1, 2023, Nigeria’s presidential election has come and gone, a winner has emerged, and that is in person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, a man who used to be called the leader of All Progressives Congress, and later the presidential candidate of the party that produced him (APC).

While we congratulate the winner, we also believe that a lot of other people and institutions demand our appreciation, for all our commitment and sacrifice towards producing another president in the political annals of Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world.

Congratulations to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, throughout the entire process, he remained a leader to behold. He was always focused and unruffled despite all the battering, abuses and challenges. President elect Tinubu is a man Nigerians, young and old can learn a lot from.

One thing we can take from him is that his journey to be the first citizen in Nigeria did not start just four or five years ago. To him it has been a very long journey, something he had planned for almost 30 years ago, and without announcing himself, without bloating his ambition, quietly and silently he must have been planning within him.

When the opportunity came he struck and he hit the nail on its head and he scored the goal. Once again, we congratulate him.

Another character that we need to congratulate enormously is the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari. He is a leader in the true sense of it. Like he said at his inauguration that he was for everybody and he was for nobody, he really lived and proved that while in government.

For one thing, while the candidates of his party were coming to state their intentions to contest, Nigerians had expected that he would have a preferred anointed candidate, but indications did not prove that there was anything of such. He gave a level playing ground and he lived by it.

Even when Bola Tinubu emerged as the candidate of his party, some sceptics nurtured the idea that Mr. President did not show special interest in the candidate of his party, Bola Tinubu, but Buhari kept on saying that he was all out for Tinubu, and where time permitted him, he would join the campaign train of his candidate. He had to openly prove that the he voted for Tinubu by showing his ballot paper to prove that he voted the candidate of his party.

Another move of the president which almost cast a doubt on his support for Asiwaju Tinubu was the colour change of the nation’s higher denominations of the currency at a time when election fever was all over the place. It was very painful to Nigerians, and many people thought it was a way to pitch Nigerians against the candidate of APC. That also showed the transparency of the president.

President Buhari needs to be appreciated as well as his amiable wife, Aisha Buhari. She was a stern supporter of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

God also used the National Assembly in a way. Looking into the passage of the new electoral acts and its contents, the approval of BVAS and the likes, the National Assembly needs our commendation.

We may also add the Independent National Electoral Commission which despite the pressures and intimidations, the INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu was able to deliver at record time, though the process remained imperfect. They should do better next time out.

Now that the die is cast, what we need to do as Nigerians is to look into the whole scenario, look for where we need corrections and amendments. In a competitive election like this naturally there are joyful winners and painful losers.

While the winners must be magnanimous in victory, the losers must also be humble in their defeat. Both parties should allow Nigerians to enjoy peace over this new feat. Any election peacefully conducted is a win for the country that conducted it. So if we are able to sustain this peace, Nigerians are winners.

With the emergence of the president elect, it is time to settle down and show his plans for Nigerians.

There are lots of expectations from the new president. Witnessing what Nigerians went through in the last eight years, Nigerians need a relief in all areas of their life.

Security is anything to write home about, the entire country has been torn apart with divisions along ethnic, religious and political divides. So at this stage of the nation, Nigeria needs a unifier, a bridge builder, a friend and a father to all. I have no doubt that Asiwaju Tinubu will not fail Nigerians in living up to this billing.

Another problem that stares Nigerians in the face is the problem of Nigeria’s economy. The economy is in shambles and nobody can deny that. With heavy debt burden, inflation and poor productive capacity, the new president must lead Nigerians to work. I also believe Asiwaju has what it takes to take Nigeria out of economic doldrum.

Nigeria has had its hey days of the past, we have been reckoned with in the area of education, health and other infrastructural development. Bola Tinubu should take us back to these our good old days. He promised that no student will spend beyond the mandatory academic calendar in the higher institutions. He jokingly assured that the well popularised JAPA syndrome will change to JAPADA. Japada is a called for returns of those who have run away. We want to see how he will accomplish that which we believe is doable.

We would not mind Mr. Tinubu making use of his working template for Lagos State. He needs to bring together members of his dynamic winning team. Nigeria needs an inclusive and balanced governance. He needs to put Nigeria on a path of dynamic growth and development. This, Nigeria will like to see in the next four years.

It is my desire to pray for good health, outstanding wisdom, knowledge and understanding. May Nigeria experience great prosperity under him. We pray that all our sorrows will turn to joy, and losses to gains in Jesus name.

Presidential Aspirants

To all that have lost one thing or the other in the course of the outgoing administration, most especially during this election, may the good Lord replenish them in Jesus name.

Beloved, let us continue to pray for Nigeria. We cannot pray enough, and we should not relent in our prayers, little by little with prayers, patience and perseverance, together we will all get to our promised land. It shall be well with Nigeria. Congratulations. Praise The Lord.
