Where Are the Preachers of Righteousness? Asks Pastor Amos Dada, PhD , P.Eng

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8)
I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Acts 20:27

In a world marked by moral decay, spiritual compromise, and the widespread dilution of truth, a critical question The Holy Spirit is asking us today is -Where are the preachers of righteousness? In generations past, voices like Noah, Elijah, John the Baptist, and even Jesus Christ thundered uncompromising messages of truth, calling people to repentance and holiness. Where are the Righteous preacher that the likes of Putin, Tinubu, Trump , Museveni, Paul Biya can fear and run to for advise or can challenge these Presidents to “Mount Carmel. “

Today, however, there appears to be a scarcity of such voices—ministers who will not bend to cultural trends, who refuse to preach for applause, popularity, or prosperity, but instead proclaim righteousness boldly, regardless of the cost.

Why is the church silent in these critical times, when banditry is thriving, looting, money laundering and corruption is too rampant and the poor can hardly breathe because of financial strangulation and insecurity?

The Holy Spirit tells me who these preachers are, the advantages and disadvantages they face, and how this generation can raise a new breed of righteous preachers in a time of spiritual drought.

Who Are the Preachers of Righteousness?

Preachers of righteousness are not necessarily the most eloquent or popular ministers. They are those who, like Noah in his generation, speak God’s truth in the face of widespread ungodliness (2 Peter 2:5). They are burdened with God’s agenda, not their own. They are driven not by ego or ambition but by the fear of God and the desire to see souls reconciled to Him.

They confront sin, leaders , corruption, ungodliness, evil associations, wickedness not sweep it under the carpet. They emphasize holiness, not hype. They care more about heaven’s approval than human applause.

Advantages of Having Preachers of Righteousness

1. Moral Clarity in a Confused World
In times of moral ambiguity, these preachers act as compasses, helping society discern right from wrong according to God’s Word. Elijah stood against the mass idolatry and moral confusion of Israel under Ahab and Jezebel. His message, “How long halt ye between two opinions?” (1 Kings 18:21), brought moral clarity to a wavering nation. Billy Graham consistently preached the gospel with clarity and simplicity for over 60 years, confronting moral relativism and calling people to repentance and faith in Christ across global platforms.

2. Spiritual Revival and Awakening
Throughout history, revivals—like the Great Awakenings—were spearheaded by such men and women who preached repentance and righteousness without compromise. The likes of Jonathan Edward. As a forerunner of Christ, John preached a baptism of repentance and helped usher in a powerful move of God among the people (Luke 3:3–18). His ministry stirred hearts and prepared the way for Jesus. Reinhard Bonnke through fiery preaching on righteousness and the cross, Bonnke’s ministry helped spark revivals across Africa, leading millions to Christ and igniting spiritual hunger in places previously cold to the gospel.

3. National Reformation
When righteousness is exalted in a nation, it brings stability and divine favour (Proverbs 14:34). Preachers of righteousness are often the catalysts for such transformation.
King Josiah rediscovered the Book of the Law and led a national reformation (2 Kings 22–23). His reforms included removing idols, restoring temple worship, and returning the people to covenant living. Archbishop Benson Idahosa (Nigeria). As a bold preacher of holiness, healing, and societal transformation, Idahosa was instrumental in reshaping the religious landscape in Nigeria. His influence extended into government and education, calling leaders to righteousness.

4. Church Purity
These ministers call the church back to its roots, challenging lukewarmness, worldliness, and compromise, thereby restoring purity and spiritual vitality. Apostle Paul tirelessly corrected doctrinal errors, confronted sin in the church (e.g., 1 Corinthians 5), and urged holiness (Romans 12:1–2). His epistles form the foundation for church discipline and integrity today. David Wilkerson, known for founding Teen Challenge and authoring The Cross and the Switchblade, Wilkerson confronted sin both in the streets and in the pulpit, calling the American Church back to holiness and brokenness before God.

5.Generational Impact
Their messages may be unpopular in the moment, but they leave behind a legacy that births future reformers, prophets, and revivalists. Noah’s faithfulness in preaching righteousness preserved not only his family but the human race (Genesis 6–9). His obedience left a legacy of covenant and redemption.
Kathryn Kuhlman: Though controversial in some circles, Kuhlman’s ministry of purity, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and deep reverence for God impacted countless ministers like Benny Hinn and others who continue to influence generations.

Disadvantages and Challenges Faced by Preachers of Righteousness

1.Rejection and Isolation
Like Jeremiah, many of these preachers are misunderstood, ridiculed, or outrightly persecuted. They are often “voices crying in the wilderness,” with few who truly listen.
2. Lack of Platforms
In a world where charisma is prioritized over character, righteous preachers often find it difficult to get invited to pulpits or platforms that favour ear-tickling messages.
3. Financial Hardship
Because they refuse to merchandise the gospel, some may struggle financially, especially in environments where prosperity preaching dominates.
4. Mental and Emotional Strain
Constant opposition, spiritual warfare, and the weight of delivering unpopular truth can take a toll on their mental and emotional health.
5. False Labeling
They may be called “old school,” “judgmental,” or “religious extremists” by both the Church and the world.

Why the Shortage Today?

Several factors contribute to the scarcity of preachers of righteousness in our time:
• Compromised Theology The gospel is increasingly diluted to appeal to the masses. The cross is preached without repentance, grace without truth.
• Materialism in Ministry Many enter ministry with profit, not purpose, in mind. Money and influence have become idols in the pulpit.
• Fear of Man The fear of losing members, followers, or sponsors prevents many preachers from saying what God wants them to say.
• Celebrity Culture Ministers are now measured by likes, followers, and media presence rather than spiritual depth and holy living.
• Neglect of Discipleship There is a lack of intentional mentoring and training of the next generation in sound doctrine and righteous living.

How Can This Generation Raise Preachers of Righteousness?
1. Return to the Bible
Seminaries, Bible schools, and churches must go back to teaching sound doctrine and biblical holiness as non-negotiables.
2. Raise Intercessors
Elijahs are birthed in prayer closets. We need prayer ministries and watchmen on the wall interceding for the emergence of true prophets and preachers.
3. Mentorship and Discipleship
Older, seasoned ministers who have stood for truth must intentionally mentor young preachers to walk the same path.
4. Encourage Integrity and Accountability
Build systems that promote transparency, personal holiness, and doctrinal purity among ministers.
5. Platform the Unpopular
Churches and Christian conferences must begin to give platforms to unknown but righteous voices rather than simply famous ones.
6. Teach the Cost of the Calling
Young ministers must understand that to stand for truth means suffering for truth (2 Timothy 3:12). They must count the cost and be ready to pay it.
7. Model What We Preach
Congregations follow what they see. Leaders must embody righteousness in conduct, speech, and decisions.

Conclusion
The world is groaning, creation is yearning, and heaven is watching. God is still asking like He did in Isaiah’s time: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8). The call for preachers of righteousness is urgent.
We must stop exalting entertainers and start empowering evangelists. We must stop producing celebrities and start raising consecrated men and women who love God more than gold, who fear God more than they fear man, and who will rather die than dilute His Word.

The good news? The Lord always reserves a remnant. May we be among them—and may we raise many more.
