May 1, 2025. It was another day with the Chaplains Fellowship of Nigeria founded by Archbishop Lawrence Ayodele Afilaka, who is also the National President and Grand Commander of the fellowship.
For all men, and the ranks and file of the CFN, it was a day of reunion, a day of prayer, and a day of sharpening their tools when it comes to learning, revision of chaplain practices and review of the programmes and activities of the body.
It was therefore unexpected that participants came from all areas and commands of fellowship, as far as Ibadan, Oyo State, and Ilesa and Osogbo in Osun State.
The day’s activities was opened with prayer which was ushered in by the monthly Oluwalana prayer meeting of Preach the Word Evangelistic team also founded and presided over by Archbishop Lawrence Afilaka, after which the members and officers of the Chaplains took to parade and march past supervised by the training officer and the General Officer Commanding, Bishop Ebenezer Oladeji with the assistance of Chaplain Ayoola Bankole and Bishop Olorunfemi.
In his keynote address, read by the Chaplain Patroness, Rev. Dr. Bola Adereti, Archbishop Afilaka reminded the chaplains officers of their unique role as bridge builders noting that their bridge building duties range from pastoral functions of healing, sustaining in faith, reconciling both with god and fellow human beings in guidance and counseling.
Archbishop Afilaka, who stressed that a chaplain is an embodiment of a priest, prophet, and wise counselor called on the members and the officers to enlist their children and wards to join the fellowship.
“As we leaders are not getting younger, it is absolutely necessary for those of us who are parents or guardians to encourage our children and wards to enlist in this kingdom minded organization,” emphasized the octogenarian General Commander.
In his own presentation the guest speaker of the day chaplain Joseph Joluwaseyi urged all members of the organization to value what the Lord had delivered to them by the hand of Archbishop Afilaka by spreading the good news which Chaplain Fellowship of Nigeria carries.
He agreed with Archbishop Afilaka in pointing out that gifted younger members should be empowered and encouraged to embrace the message of Chaplaincy which was to live as good examples to others to make their Christian life a good example for others to follow and emulate.
In the same vein Rev. John Komeh who was at the convention with his wife, Pastor Hope called on chaplain members to live a life of godliness and integrity using Jesus Christ as their example.
The GOC, Bishop Ebenezer Oladeji also charged members to respect the ethics and maintain the discipline enshrined in Chaplains Fellowship of Nigeria. He noted that by wearing uniforms similar to that of Navy does not mean that members should rank themselves with government agencies, and anytime they wear the uniform, they should conduct themselves with the best of character acceptable in any civilized society.
Other high points of the day were sessions of fervent prayers for Nigeria, CFN as an organization as well as members. There was also ordination of ministers as well as promotion and decoration of officers of the CFN. There was also presentation of books by Chaplain Williams of Badagry Command and the events of the day were rounded off with thanksgiving service by members and those in attendance.
In attendance were Zonal Commanders, senior officers and other members of the fellowship, notable among these was the Mother in Israel, Prophetess Funmilayo Afilaka, the Patron and the Patroness, Bishop Isaiah Adegunju and his better half, Rev. Mrs. Bolanle Adereti, the renowned gospel music minister, Chaplain rev. Mrs. Foluke Awoleye, the General Secretary and his wife, Barrister Olusesan and Mrs. Adeniyan.
