BREAKING: Ikeji Ile Mourns, Announces The Passage Of Its Monarch, Oba Adebayo Aiyegbo Ogunmokun Adetemi IV, The Akeji of Ikeji Ile, (1995-2025)

The death has been announced of the paramount ruler of Ikeji Ile Ijesa in Oriade Local Government of Osun State in person of His Royal Majesty, Oba Adebayo Aiyegbo Ogunmokun, Adetemi IV.

Oba Ogunmokun joined his ancestors on Sunday March 9, 2025 at a ripe age of 87 years. He reigned for a remarkable period of 30 good years from 1995 to 2025.

Akeji, historically was one of the sons of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland that founded Ikeji Ile community in their attempt to stay away intruders from the neighbouring communities in those days.

Oba Ogunmokun before ascending the throne of his forefathers as the Akeji of Ikeji Ile was formerly the Loja of Idoka.

Oba Ogunmokun, a well exposed personality was a business man both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

He also had a stint with Elephant Cement Factory before it became Lafarge Cement Nig. Plc.

While making the announcement both in the community and on Vicinity 95.3 FM, the traditional spokesperson High Chief Gbenga Ajewole commiserated with the sons and daughters of the community as he urged them to maintain peace, unity and tranquility during the cause of the traditional rites that would hold for the first seven days, and later 30 days.

Meanwhile, a seven day dusk to dawn restriction has been imposed on movement of people within the town. It holds between 7.00pm and 6.00 am in the morning. As part of the traditional rites, the market will remain closed for the seven days, while the market centre will be relocated.

In the same vein, sons and daughters of the community have been sending in their condolence messages to pay tributes to the fond memories of the deceased traditional ruler.

Dr. Phillips Abiodun Badewa, the Chairman of Vicinity FM, a Radio station based in Ikeji Ile, from his US base wrote, “His reign and life was remarkable. He was a man of courage, strength and conviction, a fighter indeed but very likable and easy to get along with. He was indeed a father to all. I very much had a personal experience of his fatherly love. May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace and may the Lord comfort his immediate family and the community at large. He will be greatly missed.”

Also in his own tribute, a media practitioner Julius Adegunna, a nephew of the traditional ruler also wrote, “One thing is sure, we cannot but miss Baba Akeji for the personality he represented. He was a lively man who wanted the best for Ikeji Ile. He was a man that tried his best while he was around. We just pray that those he left behind would be able to sustain his legacies and achieve many of the dreams he couldn’t achieve.” He disclosed “I was with him few weeks ago when I was around and Baba was there at his best, lively, jovial and conscious of his better expectations of Ikeji Ile Community.”

Samson Olukoya Ogunbusuyi, the Secretary of Ikeji Ile High School Old Students Associatian wrote in his tribute, “Kabiyesi was a shining example of wisdom, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of Ikeji-Ile people. We join the Royal family and entire Ikeji-Ile community and Ijesa land as a whole in mourning the loss of this respectable and prominent king. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for excellence in all our endeavours. May his Royal Majesty, Oba Adebayo Ogunmokun soul rest in eternal peace. We offer our deepest condolences to the Royal family during this difficult time.”

Aiyegbo Oluwaseun Martins also wrote, “His Royal Majesty Oba Pius Adebayo Aiyegbo Ogunmokun Adetemi IV. A king of noble heart and unwavering spirit has left us, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, justice, and compassion. His reign was a beacon of peace and prosperity, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his people. May his soul rest in eternal peace. I commiserate with The Oloris, The Princes and Princesses, the Omo Ile-Ijaa (Ijaa Quarters) and the Entire Ikeji Ile Sons and Daughters, home and abroad, Ijesha Monarchs and the entire Traditional Rulers In Nigeria and Africa.

Oba Akeji when he was alive was a lively person, bold and confident, a lover of youth, and a man who wanted the best in growth and development of his community. May his soul rest in peace.
