To Dr. Michael Oni, the renowned university teacher and popular Lagos based theologian, there is nothing better in life but to continue to appreciate and honour one’s parents even after their departure.
With this thought in his mind the amiable cleric in agreement with his siblings decided to hold a final burial ceremony for their father Pa Moses Omiyode Oni and their mother Deaconess Serah Ore Omiyode who passed on in 1992 and 2023 respectively.
The date was Saturday September 6, 2025 and the venue was Adejumo Farm Event Centre, Kola Bus stop, AIT road, Lagos.
It was well attended by loved ones, friends and family members, among which was Evangelist Ojo Ade.
Also in attendance were his associates from Ifako Ijaiye area like Rev. Olatunji of Doers of the Word Evangelical Church, Rev. Dr. Festus Odeyemi, of Lead Me to the Cross Church, Prophet Joseph Jegede, Pastor Ajakaiye and a host of others.
It was a befitting one with memorial and thanksgiving service earlier in the day, and entertainment of guests with good music and wining and dining following.
According to Dr. Oni, it was a good thing to keep the memories of their parents alive even after their departure, saying their parents would long be remembered for the good legacies and godly training given to their children.
In the same way, the preacher, Rev. Ajakaiye admonished that it was very good for parents to leave behind good legacies to their children.
In his sermon Pastor Ajakaiye reminded the congregation that the reason for joining Dr. Oni and his family is not just about their passage and burial but for the good legacies Pa and Mama Omiyode Oni left behind, adding “What is very important about living is one’s legacies. Many of us here today did not know about the parents physically but we can identify with them because of the good legacies they gave to their children.
“We are all here in the belief that we will see the Papa and Mama in resurrection”, quoting John 11.25 and Acts 9.36, he added, “we should be mindful of the legacies we can leave behind us.”
He charged the listeners to always be ready to do good works, care for the less privileged, widows and orphans as well as render help to the helpless around us, as part of our service to humanity.

The entertainment part was well handled by members of Lagos Chapter of Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria lending helping hands to Dr. Oni, as their versatile Governor Israel aka Eyinju was on the band stand singing melodious and danceable songs with good beats, with Evangelists Odun Akins and Wale Odunlami assisting.
Later in his comments, Evangelist Ojo Ade who paid glowing tributes to the parents of the Ife born cleric said he was part of the celebration because of the good nature and character of his host, Dr. S.M.O. Oni.
Also available to share the joy of the day with Dr. Oni was Prophetess Beatrice Adebiyi and the family of Apostle Z. A. Agbenike.
