ELECTION: LAGOS PASTORS THROW WEIGHT BEHIND GOVERNOR SANWOOLU FOR SECOND TERM

Barely weeks to the governorship election of which Lagos State helmsman, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu would be seeking for a second term, Christian ministers under the auspices of Clergy Support For Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu and Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu Youth Professionals Support Group (BOSYOPS) have come together to throw their weight behind the second term bid of the governor.

This was demonstrated on Monday February 13, 2023 at Igando area of Lagos when Pastors, Apostles, Bishops, Prophets and Evangelists were gathered in their thousands to pledge their supports for the second term re election bid of Governor Sanwoolu of Lagos State.

The meeting drew participants majorly from the Alimoso Local Government and Lagos West Senatorial District.

The support group was facilitated by Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu Youth Professionals Support Group (BOSYOPS) with the presence of a Lagos based business man Prince Sam Joseph Sam with supports from other top ministers like Bishop Steve Ogedengbe who is the Executive Secretary, Bishop Samuel Oladiti of Alimoso Ministers’ Forum, Pastor Dele Asaaju, Secretary of CPFN in Lagos State, Apostle James Iyanda, and Rev. Sam Ogedengbe of ACLMF.

In his welcome remark, Bishop Steve Ogedengbe the Executive Secretary commended the clerics for coming together in one voice to lend their supports for the performing governor of the state of excellence.

According to him, one of the easiest things for the devil is to forbid the unity of the body of Christ. Quoting Amos 3.3, the cleric said it was time for Christians to come together and see themselves as one indivisible body of Christ saying, “We are coming together, we are working together and we are moving together in the spirit of Lagos.”

Clergy Support For BOS, he said was borne out of revelation and Rhema, as he explained that the meeting was not put together by Governor Sanwoolu but for the governor.

“This programme was not sponsored by the government or any politician but individuals that believe in doing things together, and no compensation in terms of contracts or political patronage is expected in return.”

Bishop Ogedengbe in his speech said the body came together having looked with keen interest the Christian life of the governor, and his relationship with pastors and ministers of God.

He described Governor Sanwoolu as a dove who through careful administrative wizardry and wisdom of God, did not allow kidnapping to take place in his state, and not that kidnappers didn’t make efforts.

“His term has remained peaceful in Lagos State, he was challenged by the crisis of Endsars and Covid 19 and by the wisdom of God he was able to bring back Lagos State to its feet. He did not close church or mosques, he relates well with the religious leaders, he did not pull down any church, and that is why we enjoy religious peace in the state. We will continue to pray for the peace and unity and the continuation of this friendly and godly governor in office.”

In his own remarks, Bishop Oladiti commended the governor for his landmark projects in Lagos West Senatorial District noting the Ishuti Road, Ishefun Camp Davies Ijon Liasu Ojo Ijo Road Networks with Jetty Terminal in Alimoso Local Government area, the on going construction of Idowu Egba bridge, while Rev. Ogedengbe also noted the governor’s efforts to make life better for Lagosians by the works on Ikeja flyover as they called on him to finish up the ongoing projects in the area.

To Pastor Dele Asaaju, the Secretary of Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Lagos State, “There is no reason to be afraid of the second term ambition of the governor as he is a child of God par excellence but we want the clergy to be more recognised after the election. We will want our role and dignity to be restored to us as ministers of God.”

To the convener and Chairman of the event Prince Sam Joseph Sam, Christians were told not to shy away from politics, stressing, “We don’t need to run away from politics. We have about 166,000 church branches in Lagos State, what we are doing here today is for us and the generations to come. If 20 members vote in each church assembly we have nothing less than 4million votes. Today marks the beginning of greater things to come. Whatever you believe in sell it. It’s the time for the men of Benjamen to rise. We have what it takes to lead.

“Democracy is a game of sharing. Vote for who can win and demand for what he can do for you. We have fasted and pray. This is the time to act. Let us go back to our churches and charge them. Let us pull down the wall of division which has plagued the church. We want landslide win for governor Sanwoolu, not just winning.”

,

He however charged the ministers not to put their trust in man always but to look up to God for their needs. “When you give for God don’t expect any returns from any man,” he charged.

There were various sessions of prayers for the governor, the deputy and their team, for the elections, for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

By the end of the meeting the ministers put together their resolutions and pledged to collectively support the governor and by extension the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu by massively voting them in for the elections.

Representing the governor at the event was the commissioner for Agriculture and the brain behind BOSYPOPS Mrs. Bisola Olusanya.

The event was also used to showcase many outstanding projects by the Sanwoolu led administration such as the recently inaugurated Imota Rice Mill, Light Rail Blue Line, Lekki Deep Sea Port, J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and history, Construction of over 300 roads, repositioning of the health sectors through building of more health centres at the grass roots, free health policy for children below 18 years, and adults above 65 years of age.
