Graduates of Mass Communications Department of The Polytechnic Ibadan Class of 1997, recently held their reunion meeting last weekend at the Jubilee Conference Centre, Oke Ado, Ibadan in Oyo State.

The meeting which brought together a good number of the members together was celebrated with sessions of teachings and seminars, and the election of new officers to pilot the affairs of the young association.
The election had Dr Oluwole Olarinde elected as Protem President, Pastor Oye Fajinmi, Secretary; Mr Sumbo Sangogade, Treasurer/Financial Secretary; Mrs Olabimpe Otegbade, Welfare Secretary, Mr Kunle Aderemi, PRO, Mr Tunde Babalola JP is the Coordinator of Abuja Chapter; Mr Wale Olagoke, Coordinator of Ibadan chapter; Lekan Omotosho, Coordinator of Lagos Axis and Daniel Pelu-Jones in charge of Diaspora members.
In one of the seminars a mental health expert and Coordinator of Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Abodunrin Funmilayo, stated that regular sexual intercourse among couples is a good form of exercise to keep one healthy and a panacea to sleeplessness.
Mrs Abodunrin, who represented a medical Consultant, Dr. Robertson Olugbade Omotajo, stated this while delivering health talk on “Age related diseases” at the First Reunion meeting.
She revealed that statistics have it that about 150,000 people died on daily basis worldwide with two third of the death cause by age related diseases.
According to her, depression and rate of suicide are on the increase nowadays because no one cares for another again like in the olden days where the family ties was intact, stressing that as an Alumni body, “you must be your brother’s keeper”.
She enjoined Nigerians to always go for regular medical checkup as and when due noting that as car owners service and visit mechanical workshop regularly, our health and vital body parts like kidney and lever needs to be checked regularly with constant servicing.
The mental health expert prescribed the following for those that are above the age of 40. The included eating of more vegetables, Water, fruits, balanced diet, regular exercises like trekking some distance daily, adequate rest at least 6 hours of sleep daily, Weight control, No to smoking, No to alcohol, Reduce stress, avoid falling, take care of the heart, and taken care of yourself.
She concluded that to increase one’s life span, we must first increase our health span.
In his motivational speech, a retired lecturer of Mass Communications, The Polytechnic Ibadan and a Public Relations guru, Mr Kayode Akinpelu tasked the Alumni to always ‘watch the back of one another’.
He lauded the idea of coming together of Class 1997 noting that they should always see to one another’s welfare while not jettison assistance to their alma matter.
He then reeled out several benefits of belonging to Old students association.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Planning Committee had appreciated God for sparing the lives of members of the Alumni, 25 years after graduation.
He lauded the Like mind Movement where the idea of the gathering was first mooted, commending the members for achieving this feet within four months of planning.
In a statement, the Protem President Dr. Wole Olarinde expressed his appreciation to God for bringing the old mates together in good health and his colleagues for finding him useful to lead the association in its formative stage as he promised to do his best to justify the confidence reposed in him.
25 years after graduation, the members were also grateful to God for ordering their steps as many of them are now well spread across different walks of life doing exploits.
