KSA, Tee Mac, MCSN, Visit Onyeka Onwenu’s Family, as the Iconic Music Star Gets Burial Plans

Top musicians and leaders in the Nigerian music scene have been paying condolence visits to the Lagos home of the late iconic singer and artiste, Onyeka Onwenu who passed on last week.

Onyeka Onwenu died last Tuesday after her performance at the 80th birthday party of Chief Stella Okoli, the Chief Executive Officer of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.

The delegation, which was led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the MCSN, Orits Wiliki, was received by the sons of the singer, Abram and Tijani.

Others on the delegation of the MCSN included King Sunny Ade, with whom Onwenu did a duet, titled: “Wait for me.”

The family of late Nigerian singer, Onyeka Onwenu, at the visit revealed that the deceased would be buried before the end of August, 2024.

Onyeka before her death, had preferred as part of her wishes to be buried as quick as possible with inexpensive burial.

They said they would respect their late mother’s wishes by giving her a befitting burial as soon as possible.

It could be recalled that the late singer was reported to have stated how she would like to be buried whenever she died emphasizing that her burial should be devoid of unnecessary fanfare.

She said, “Do it quickly, quietly and privately. Mourn, yes but not excessively. Celebrate me with prayers, lunch or dinner afterwards,”

The children promised to announce specific dates for the burial, which they vowed would not exceed the end of August.

Writing in the condolence register, King Sunny Ade said: “Dear sister and colleague, may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Your fans and friends all over the world will remember you forever.”

Others in the delegation included Tee Mac, who promised to perform at the service of songs of the late singer; Kenny Ogungbe; and Mayo Ayilaran, the General Manager of MCSN.
