It is getting clearer now that time has passed when some concerned elders in Nigeria cannot afford to remain silent on the disturbing state of the nation. One of them is Bishop Felix Green Oluyemi Alawode, the African Director and President of African Association of Christian Counsellors.
He has earlier maintained that Nigerian Elder Statesmen should speak to plead the cause of generations coming behind.
His message this time around harps on serious and sterling warning saying that if Nigerian leaders refuse to do what is right, they should be prepared for what would make them fall into line, even forcefully and painfully.
“We should be able to stand up and warn Nigerian leaders not to wait until they are forced to do the right thing. We are here to tell them that God could permit some things to happen that will lead to the purpose of God to be achieved on Nigeria, and rearrangement or restructuring is one of them.
“It may be unclear to Nigerian leaders who refuse to act wisely until they are forced to do something. From all indications Nigeria leaders are not ready to act except God intervenes.”
Quoting copiously portions of the Bible where God forced some people particularly leaders to do what is right, the cleric said, “waiting until such a time could amount to calling for the wrath of God.”
According to him, there are many examples of such in the bible. “We have the examples of Pharaoh, we have the example of Nebuchadnezar, that of Senacherub, and Saul as leaders.”
He also noted that God does not spare his anointed when He wanted them to do His bidding citing examples of Moses, Miriam, Lot’s wife, Ananiah and Saphira and all that disobeyed God.
“There are always repercussions when one refuses to do God’s will. I pray we don’t wait until the worst happens to Nigeria.
“Like many examples in the Bible God can intervene in diverse ways. It can either be by natural disasters like earthquake or by any tremor. God can intervene by natural disasters like earthquake or tremor as the people cannot force the leaders particularly the politicians and even religious leaders to do what is right. The leaders may not do anything except something happens suddenly to override the powers that stand on the way, making reference to Acts16. 26, and Matthew 28.2.
The Christian Counsellor therefore drew the attention of Nigerians to eight different areas in the bible where God allowed supernatural intervention or natural occurrences to force leaders to obey Him. He said, it was time they put God into remembrance in the scheme of things in Nigeria, quoting Isaiah 43.26, Psalm 82.5, Job 14.4
“We want to look into what God did in the past to wrestle Nigeria out of troubled times. Psalm 82.5 tells us that all we are doing now is wrong and faulty because it’s like we are groping in the dark because we are running out of course.
“Job 14.4 says No clean thing can be taken from unclean. Nigeria is unclean and rotten as it is presently constituted and operated. That is why Nigeria must be restructured or rearranged.”
On what could be the solution to the problem, he asked, “Why do we have conflicting judgements in the courts of law? We need to put God into remembrance, by praying and desiring to put God in remembrance of His acts, and bring divine intervention. There is the need to bring deliverance to the people from their calamities, terror is a power that is all over them.
“In our perception Nigeria has been swallowed, besieged and hedged around and about by forces of terror and religion within and without, with bandits and kidnappers, politically, socially and economically all over places.
“Psalm 118, verses 10 to 12 says these political and religious parasites need to put God into perspectives through prayers for shakings that may bring the leaders into thinking and acting right.
Bishop Alawode in his eight point agenda therefore called on Nigerians for prayers to call God for remembrance. We call all Nigerians regardless of ethnic religious or political affiliations to change.
He also cited the story of the division of Israel in 1Kings 12.1-20, saying “the kingdom of Israel divided under king Rehoboam who rejected elders’ wise counsel to reduce the yoke and suffering on the people under him and the kingdom divided. God should intervene in the counsels that lead to the suffering of the masses.
Quoting Genesis 11. 6-8, Bishop Alawode called on God to destroy every anti-God projects and activities in Nigeria, and that the Lord should confuse all enemies of the country.
Also looking into 11Kings 7. 6-10 and the famine in Samaria, he said “Let there be ‘By this time tomorrow miracles’ that will make everyone live and eat in peace in Nigeria.
Taking a look at the antics of Harman in Esther chapter 3 verses 13 to 15, and chapter 7 verse 8, he prayed that “God should scatter every evil plan, scheme, project and covenant of the enemies and should be divinely reversed.”
Also from IIChronicles 32. 16.23, the cleric recalled the story of Senacherub, king of Assyria and that of king Jehoshaphat in IIChronicles 20.22-24, praying that the enemies of Nigeria should totally destroy themselves. “We should pray for self-destruction for those worrying the nation.”
“The Lord should blindfold the enemies of Nigeria and return them to their base, send them back to senders of evil messages with their weapons of destruction,” quoting 2Kings 6.15-23.
“In Daniel 4.25, 34-37, as Nebuchadnezar realised that God was the head of all kingdoms, let all our leaders realise that God is the head in the kingdom of heaven and rules in the affairs of men on earth.”
In conclusion, calling every Nigerian to prepare for the coming change, Bishop Alawode asked God to raise every Nigerian within as a deliverer of this nation, drawing his inspiration from Judges 3.9-15. This he said “is a wake-up call for those who are in government, and those who are outside government, to the leaders and the followers. It is time all Nigerians should rise up to salvage the country.”
