It was celebration unusual at Christ Apostolic Church, Chapel of Solution headquarters International Powerful Word Centre, Alakuko, Lagos when friends, fellow ministers of God and associates joined the Senior Pastor of the Church, Pastor Dr. T. T. Lawal in celebrating the three decades of his matrimonial sojourn with his beloved better half, Lady Evangelist Mrs. Adenike Lawal.
The modest celebration had in attendance some distinguished marriage experts like Rev’d Dr. Isaac Ijaopo, Senior Pastor of Springs of Life Mission, President, Christian Development and Counseling Centre, Ibadan, Nigeria; and Pastor and Mrs. Bisi Adewale, Pastor Dr. and Mrs Olasehinde, Pastor David and Mrs Funmi Adegunle, and other top ministers of the gospel.
In his welcome address the host Pastor T.T. Lawal did not mince words on why he had chosen to celebrate his wife on the auspicious occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary, and his wife’s birthday describing her as a very unique gift to him.
“I could not celebrate on our silver jubilee anniversary for my challenge then. Though there is no marriage without its challenges, all it requires is wisdom. But my wife is everything to me. She loves me so much. I was coming from an overseas trip when I suffered stroke at the airport. I would have died without her. Should I come back to this world again I would love to marry her.”
Going down the memory the celebrating husband traced their marital journey to CAC Students Association way back to 1991.
He disclosed, “Her father was a military officer and you know military officers could be tough. What her father saw in me was my confidence and boldness. He asked what I had and I told him I had Jesus.
“Secondly my wife loved my mother. As we used to call ourselves in those days, I used to call her sister Nike and because my mother did not understand what that meant, she followed me to call her Sister Nike to equally appreciate her.
“My wife is a princess from Ile Ife. She is beautiful in and out. She is industrious, and educated.
Stating more on the reasons for the gathering, Pastor Lawal said it was a gathering for marriage couples, so that every couple at the event would have something to learn, and most of their guests were there with their spouses.
Rev’d Dr. Ijaopo, the guest speaker, speaking on the topic The Basics of Marital Pillar is Love charged couples to have balanced love between erotic and agape love to sustain their blissful marriage. “Both are needed to sustain the family, even though they have their own limitations,” he stressed.
Rev’d Ijaopo, a marriage counsellor of 39 years at the event then went on to discuss Seven Symptoms of Depreciating Marital Relationship and he gave seven ways to renew couples’ first love.
His message was followed by that of Pastor Bisi Adewale, another marriage expert who also rounded of with some snipets on how to have a lasting successful marital relationship, among which are “Marriage is like a baby you need to feed it daily; Anointing does not make marriage work, it is wisdom that makes marriage work; Marriage is like a garden, nurture and water it, like car, service it, like fire fuel it; The most beautiful wife in the world is your wife; The husband is called the bridegroom so as to groom his bride, Without communication there will be complication, destruction and suspicion with every evil thing in the home.”
The celebration was spiced with renewal of marital vows administered by Rev’d Ijaopo, prayers from husband to wife and vice versa, music ministration and cutting of anniversary cake.
The anniversary celebration was attended by couples, husbands and wives, ministers of God, friends and pastor Lawal’s family friends and well wishers.
